MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION (JOIN)

Thank you for your interest in joining the San Fernando Valley Dental Society (SFVDS).

The benefits of joining the SFVDS are wide and varied and include the CDA/ADA benefits you will see in the PDF document below.

In addition, as referred to in our FAQ tab, membership is a Tripartite affair. This means that when you join the SFVDS locally, you also join the California Dental Association (CDA) and the American Dental Association (ADA).

Unless you are a recent graduate from Dental School or are retired, tripartite dues are generally in the range of $1675 per year. The approximate breakdown of the standard annual dues is as follows:

SFVDS$348
CDA$750
ADA$554

If you join between July 1 and September 30, your dues will be approximately one-half of the above amounts

If you join between October 1 and December 31, your dues will be approximately one-quarter of the above amounts. Call our office to see if special 4th quarter dues waivers are in effect at the time you complete the application.

While this may seem like a lot of money at first glance, the benefits are great and unavailable anywhere else, or through any other organization of dentists. Benefits of tripartite membership include the local benefits listed above, PLUS:

  • Access to malpractice insurance
  • Additional low cost CE courses
  • Exclusive access to the Peer Review Process (to help avoid costly litigation)
  • A wide variety of endorsed and discounted programs that can help in your practice
  • Having your voice represented at the Dental Board of California and in front of the legislatures in Sacramento and Washington, DC.

Membership Information (Renew)

Q: Why should I renew?

A: Membership leverages the combined strength and resources of ADA, CDA and your local dental society. This collective force ensures your voice is represented at the national, state and local levels.

As a member, you’re directly supporting and benefiting from legislative advocacy and legal action to address the parts of dentistry that are keeping you up at night. CDA is pursuing dental plan reform and building practice staffing pathways.

Q: I’m a new grad. Why should I renew?

A: CDA provides many resources specifically for new grads and early career dentists, which are available to members at cda.org/newdentist.

·         Advocacy for the issues impacting new graduates today, including licensure support

·         TDIC New Dentist Program for a special rate on professional liability coverage

·         Dentistry-centered career center and expert guidance to facilitate your search

·         Student loan repayment grant resources

·         Invitation to CDA’s conventions and special events just for students

·         Volunteer and leadership opportunities

·         Business guidance and tools for transitioning into practice

·         <early career dentist programs at the local level>

Q: I’m retiring. Why should I renew?

A: You will benefit from reduced dues and receive a 100% discount on dues as a Lifetime Retired member (30–40 years of membership and age 65+), but still maintain all benefits of membership, like earning the C.E. needed to maintain your license and volunteer your services as a dentist.

Q: Is there an age requirement for Life Membership?

A: As of today, ADA does not have an age requirement for Life Membership Dues (Life Active and Life Retired). To qualify for Life Membership with CDA, a member dentist must be 65 years of age or older the previous calendar year.

Q: When is the last day to renew?

A: If you received notice of renewal in the fall of 2024 for the 2025 membership year, your full dues (or enrollment in automated payments) was due by January 1, 2025. If renewal is/was not completed by January 30, the payment is considered late, and your membership is at risk of cancellation. To support our members, we’re now extending the late payment window to until March 31, 2025.

Q: Why was the due date (grace period) extended?

A: Due to the hardships caused by wildfires that are impacting many members in Southern California, and in an effort to provide all members an equal opportunity to renew, we are extending the due date until March 31 (90 days).
