We are excited to introduce our esteemed organization led by Dr. Alan Taylor, the President for the year 2025. As a significant part of the California Dental Association (CDA) and the American Dental Association (ADA), our society comprises a membership of 1492 dedicated professionals.

One of the impactful initiatives of the San Fernando Valley Dental Society is the work of our foundation to deliver crucial oral health services to underserved and low income populations across our community. The SFVDS community encompasses a broad area from the Santa Monica Mountains to the Ventura County line, and from Eagle Rock to the Los Angeles River, including the entirety of the Antelope Valley.

Summary:

This course will provide an overview of the CURES and MATE programs; drug interactions for patients with substance misuse and/or utilizing psychotropic drugs; opioid and non-pharmacological dental pain management; as regards to implications and perspectives for the dental practitioner.

Objectives/ Learning Outcomes:

1. Understanding the M.A.T.E. Act
2. Summary of California C.U.R.E.S Program
3. Overview of dental pain management options and clinical implications
4. Understanding substance misuse disorder
5. Overview of methadone, suboxone, naltrexone, narcan
